Why did you pursue a real estate career?
I have always loved working with people, problem-solving, making Pinterest boards for my dream home, and watching TLC. It wasn’t until COVID that I began researching and talking to family and friends about the career. I was at a point in my life where I felt like I needed a change from my regular college student day jobs and was just bored. So, for my birthday, I signed up for real estate classes on a whim to see if I could even do the schooling and pass the test. Little did I know I would be so interested in all the new information I was learning that I would study harder for my real estate test than I have for anything before. I WAS THRILLED when I passed my test on the first go around. I joined a brokerage and immediately got to work. l had no idea everything that would go into it, and I’m so glad I took a leap and decided to sign up for classes. I’ve never had one dull day, and I learn something new every day, which is exactly what I was looking for.
When and why did you join Fathom Realty?
I joined Fathom just this year in April! It has been one, if not the best, decisions I have made in my career. When I was at my past brokerage, I was still determining what I was receiving from my brokerage for my commission split and felt stagnated in my field, which as a two-year agent, is a dangerous place to be. I knew I needed to get a hold of the reins and find something to motivate me to improve. I contacted my team lead and family friend, Cori Sharp. She had joined Fathom in July 2022, and it was as if fate wanted us both to find something new and fresh to motivate us. The next day, after I had called her to see what she had been up to, we met at Panera to discuss Fathom’s plan and business model. It was like love at first sight (or hearing). We talked about being on a team, and, no joke, while sitting at that table with food in front of us, we called her District Director and started my onboarding process. Since then, I have been blown away by the resources Fathom provides and the fantastic communication. There is nowhere else I’d rather be!!
What advice can you give someone just starting a real estate career?
Every other day I have someone reach out to me about wanting to pursue real estate, and I tell each of them the same thing: If it was easy, everyone would do it, and everyone would be a millionaire. Don’t be afraid of “No’s” and of failing. That is how we build and learn. My first year of real estate should be written in a book somewhere about how many times I felt like I was failing and not going to make it in the career, but through persistence, there is no other career that is more rewarding than this one.
Can you elaborate on the development and purpose behind Pop-Up Books? What are your plans for this organization?
Pop-Up Books is a Dallas/Fort Worth-based non-profit that a group of people started with a passion for reading and treasured memories of the book fairs of their childhood. Our mission is to: provide free books for kids in local communities that increase access to and encourage enthusiasm for reading, spread the word about local sources that offer free or affordable reading materials (like public libraries), and be a good community partner and help support other events and organizations that focus on reading.
Every child who walks into a Pop-Up Books tent walks out with a free book they picked for themselves. We can’t imagine a better experience or way for kids to fall in love with reading. We just hit our first anniversary and have been getting ready for our biggest event yet, Richardson ISD’s BackPack Bash. This event provides free resources and supplies for students who need them, and we are so excited to be able to bring our fair and have over 2700 kids come through to pick out their very own books! With each event, we seem to grow and grow. With the help of our founding families, sponsors, volunteers, and donors, we can keep spreading the joy of reading!
Are there other interests you would like to tell us about, for example, membership in local REALTORS® boards, hobbies, community service, your family, or other activities?
Where do I even begin? When I’m not showing houses, working on Pop-Up Books, or finishing my Bachelor’s degree, I enjoy reading, going to the gym, crocheting, taking my dogs to the park, and horseback riding with my friends.
