A Fathom Realty Agent Making a Difference in Riverside County, CA

Steve Lautenbach, a dedicated Fathom Realty agent in the Coachella Valley, CA, and his partner Sergio Garcia recently spearheaded a heartwarming initiative to bring joy to the children of migrant workers in Riverside County, CA. The duo embarked on a mission to collect toys for the Riverside County Office of Education’s Migrant Education Program.

Bridging the Gap: Bringing Joy to Migrant Workers’ Children

The idea struck them during a drive through Thermal or near the Salton Sea, where they realized these children might not experience the same excitement of new school supplies or toys as other kids. “The children of migrant farm workers probably don’t get very many toys at Christmas,” remarked Garcia, igniting the spark for the toy drive.

Their goal was simple yet profound: to ensure that these children, often overlooked by society, receive the same giddy, gleeful first-day-of-school memories. This drive wasn’t just about toys; it was about bridging the gap and showing appreciation for the hardworking farm workers who play a crucial role in our communities.

The response was overwhelming. Through a concerted effort of contacting everyone they knew, garnering media attention, and receiving generous donations, Steve and Sergio collected a staggering 1,218 toys. These toys were not just items but tokens of love, care, and hope for a brighter future for these children.

The impact went beyond just the toys. Parents expressed immense gratitude and relief, knowing that their children would have a special gift to open on Christmas morning. The joy and gratitude were palpable, showcasing the profound effect a small act of kindness can have on a community.

Steve’s commitment to community service and making a difference doesn’t stop here. He plans to continue the toy drive in 2024, to provide one toy for each of the 1,800 children enrolled in the Migrant Education office in Indio. This initiative has also sparked interest among others, with several volunteers and donors already stepping up to support this noble cause.
