On October 18th, the Fathom Realty – Coastal Carolina team, led by District Director Kim Nicoll, had the honor of participating in the annual Stand Down event in Myrtle Beach, SC. This meaningful event, sponsored by the Welcome Home and Resource Center (WHRC), offered essential services and resources to homeless and at-risk Veterans in the Grand Strand area.

Stand Down events are collaborative efforts that bring together Veterans Administration staff, volunteers, local organizations, and community-based service providers to offer comprehensive support to Veterans in need. The Myrtle Beach event provided haircuts, meals, medical and dental screenings, and connections to vital services. This year’s Stand Down saw a significant increase in participation, with twice the number of Veterans served compared to last year, a testament to the growing need in the region.

As homelessness among Veterans continues to rise in the Grand Strand area, events like this are crucial in providing immediate relief and long-term solutions. For the Kim and fellow Fathom agent Jennifer Ball, giving back to the Veteran community is a deeply personal mission. Many of the event volunteers are Veterans themselves. The bonds formed during the event transcend shared military experiences, creating a sense of camaraderie and mutual understanding.

The Fathom Realty team were proud to contribute by handing out toiletry kits, fleece blankets, poppy pins, bracelets, and bottled water to Veterans in attendance. These small tokens of appreciation and heartfelt conversations helped uplift and honor the extraordinary heroes who have served our country.

In addition to the success of this Stand Down, the WHRC announced an exciting new initiative to prevent the closure of the beloved Veterans Cafe. They are taking over operations to ensure this important community hub remains open. Moreover, the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Tiny Home village, which will provide housing for homeless Veterans, is tentatively scheduled for November 9th. This initiative marks a significant step forward in addressing the needs of Veterans facing homelessness in Myrtle Beach.

Fathom Realty—Coastal Carolina is committed to supporting Veterans through initiatives like this, and the team looks forward to continuing their involvement in the upcoming Stand Down event in December. Dedication to service in real estate and community efforts is at the heart of Fathom Realty’s mission, and we are proud to stand with our Veterans.
