Real estate professionals do more than just buy and sell homes—they build communities. The agents of The Greenbrier Valley Board of REALTORS®, including volunteers from Fathom Realty, recently came together to support a cause close to their hearts: helping the Greenbrier East High School (GEHS) Band raise funds for an unforgettable trip to Pearl Harbor in December 2025.

A Sweet Fundraising Initiative

Martha Hilton, District Director of Fathom Realty Greater Appalachian, West Virginia, reported that the agents wanted to take on community projects that would have a real impact. When they learned about the band’s need for fundraising, they saw an opportunity to help. 

With Valentine’s Day approaching, they decided to bake heart-shaped cakes that the band’s parents could sell to support the cause. The project required meticulous planning and a dedicated effort over three days, during which volunteers baked, iced, and decorated 104 cakes. Most of the cakes were topped with fresh strawberries, while others were finished with sugar.

Coming Together for a Cause

The event was made possible with contributions from local businesses, including Food Lion, Krogers, and the Lewisburg United Methodist Church, which provided resources and space to facilitate the project. With eight volunteers contributing 23 hours, the initiative raised $1,000 for the band after covering expenses.

Beyond fundraising, this event proved to be a fantastic team-building experience. Agents brainstormed creative ways to promote the initiative, shared responsibilities, and strengthened their bond through collective effort. 

Looking Ahead

The success of this initiative has inspired the agents to seek out more opportunities to give back to their community. As real estate professionals who deeply value the places they serve, they are eager to continue making a difference through future events and partnerships.
