The Fathom Serves project in Orem, Utah, took on a profoundly impactful mission over the holidays. Fathom Realty agents led the charge to raise awareness for Promise 2 Live, an organization dedicated to suicide prevention. Spearheaded by Fathom Realty’s Maya Peterson, the initiative engaged 50 dedicated volunteers who worked tirelessly to support the organization’s mission to save lives, combat loneliness, and foster compassion.
Raising Awareness at the Thanksgiving Pie Event
The Fathom Serves project began with a meaningful presence at the Thanksgiving Pie event, where Fathom agents set up a table to bring awareness to Promise 2 Live. The organization’s mission to prevent suicide is urgent: every 40 seconds, someone dies by suicide. Promise 2 Live aims to change that, one life at a time. The organization distributes “pocket hugs,” small challenge coins inscribed with the message, “When times are tough and you don’t know what to do. Here’s a hug from me to you.” This simple yet powerful message reminds people that they matter, are seen, and are loved.
During the Thanksgiving event, Fathom agents and volunteers distributed 1,000 pocket hugs and 300 pies to local first responders and hospital workers. This act of kindness was a heartfelt thank you for their selfless service during the holiday season and extended hope and support to those struggling with mental health challenges.
A Powerful Message from Promise 2 Live Founder
On December 4th, Fathom Realty hosted an event at their Orem office where Brandy Vega, the founder of Promise 2 Live, shared her deeply moving story with the agents and attendees. She recounted the two harrowing times her teenage daughter had attempted suicide, which ultimately led her to start the organization. Brandy’s powerful message resonated with everyone present, and many agents were moved to purchase challenge coins to distribute to friends, family, and others needing encouragement.
As part of the event, Fathom agents also wrote letters of support and encouragement to share with individuals who may be struggling, reinforcing the theme of compassion that Promise 2 Live advocates. The event created an emotional and supportive environment that further solidified Fathom’s commitment to the well-being of the local community.

Volunteerism and Community Engagement
Several Fathom agents attended Promise 2 Live’s monthly town hall meeting in early December. At the meeting, volunteers shared insights, mental health tools, and resources to help those in need. The agents who attended were so moved by the meeting that two volunteered to continue supporting the cause. This reflects Fathom’s core values of love, service, and community—values that drive agents not just to be part of the community but to actively contribute to its well-being.
Supporting Promise 2 Live’s “Hugs for the Holidays” Initiative
One of the most ambitious projects of the season was Promise 2 Live’s “Hugs for the Holidays” initiative, which aimed to reach 50,000 people with acts of kindness during the holiday season. The goal was to combat loneliness and show people they are valued and loved, even during dark times. As part of this initiative, Fathom agents gathered on December 30th to assemble 7,500 bags filled with pocket hugs and cards. These bags were distributed to police and correctional officers throughout Utah, reminding them that even those serving others need support and care for themselves.
Tragically, days before the bags were distributed, one of the officers was lost to suicide, underscoring the pressing need for such initiatives. This emotional event brought even more purpose to the effort, highlighting the importance of ongoing mental health support in the community.
A Month of Service and Connection
The entire Fathom Serves initiative in Orem was about raising awareness and creating tangible change. From the Thanksgiving pie deliveries to the heartfelt messages written for those in need, the volunteers and agents came together to impact their community significantly. Collaborating with Promise 2 Live helped distribute essential resources and brought the agents closer together, fostering a more profound sense of connection and service.
Maya Peterson, who led the event, reflected on the profound effect of these initiatives, saying, “These activities were a great way to serve our community and bring those participating closer together. Serving and bringing hope to those in need was truly a privilege.”
Through the Fathom Serves event, Fathom Realty agents exemplified the power of love, compassion, and service. By joining Promise 2 Live, they took concrete steps toward spreading kindness, mental health awareness, and the vital message that no one is ever truly alone.
Looking Ahead: Continuing the Mission of Hope
As Fathom Realty continues its mission of service, the success of the Promise 2 Live partnership serves as a beacon of hope for the future. Through community-focused initiatives, Fathom Realty remains committed to showing that with small acts of kindness, we can make a monumental difference in the lives of those who need it most. The Fathom Serves event in Orem is a perfect example of how service, love, and community unite to create a ripple effect of compassion that resonates far beyond the holiday season.
